Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Megan Royer broke a 13-year Loyola record in the 50-yard freestyle to lead the Greyhounds on Day One of the H2Ounds Invitational. Hosting Delaware, Marist and Niagara, the `Hounds garner wins in both men's and women's competition.
"Both our men and women had some outstanding mid-season times with many recording personal bests," says Head Coach Brian Loeffler. "That is an unbelievable accomplishment at this point in the season and bodes very well for our MAAC Championships. I'm hopeful that tonight's success will carry over to tomorrow."
Royer posted a 24.63 in the 50 Free to highlight the first day of competition. The freshman's time equaled the school record set by Heather Langenberg in 1993.
The men posted a win in the 800-yard freestyle relay behind a team-effort from junior Patrick Hicks, freshman Zachary Oster, senior Ryan Reeser and freshman Brad Reeser. The foursome tapped in with a time of 7:03.60 for the win.
Ryan Reeser also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.06) while sophomore Ernest Verrico finished second in the 200-yard IM. Other top three finishes included Drew Crampton (50 Free) for the men, while sophomore Laura Hanlon and freshman Melissa White tied for fourth in the 200-yard IM - each swimming a 2:16.07.
The 2006 H2Ounds Invitational concludes on Saturday with competition from the Mangione Aquatic Center beginning at 10 a.m.
