Greyhounds Post Wins At H2Ounds Invitational

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's swimming and diving team defeated Delaware for the only the second time in program history and placed second at the H2Ounds Invitational, while the women finished third at the meet on Saturday. Hosting Marist, Niagara and Delaware, the Greyhounds closed out the semester on a strong note.

The Loyola men, behind wins in the 200 Free and 200 Free Relays, defeated Delaware, 191-177 and topped Niagara 240-118. Marist won the meet, downing the men, 228-140. On the women's side, the Greyhounds topped Niagara, 267-101 and fell to Delaware (277-101) and Marist (253-125) to place third.

Senior Ryan Reeser had a big day in the pool, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.40. Younger brother Brad Reeser placed third in the event (1:46.72) and teamed up with Ryan to take the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Reesers swam with senior Drew Crampton and sophomore Ernest Verrico to win with a time of 1:26.50.

Ryan Reeser also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (47.21) while Brad Reeser took third in 47.80. Verrico added a pair of runner-up finishes with second-place showings in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.15) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.75), placing seven-tenths of a second behind Marist's Greg Jablonski in the 100 Breast.

Junior Patrick Hicks also had a second-place finish for the Greyhounds (400 IM), while junior Doug Alban placed third in the 100 Back.

On the women's side, junior Megen Hadley placed fourth in the 1650 Free with a time of 17:58.72, and took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.21). Other Top-5 finishes for the women included Megan Sterback on the 1-meter diving board and fourth-place showings from Laura Hanlon (100 IM) and Liz Chlebda (100 Breast).

Freshman Melissa White took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.14. Senior Nori Skoda took fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.12, while senior Michelle Ryan placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Greyhounds, who have a Florida Training Trip during the semester break, are idle from dual-meet competition for over a month. They return to host Rider and Howard at the Mangione Aquatic Center on January 13.
