BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland took second and third in the final event to pick up six points and edge visiting Siena College, 150-149, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's swimming and diving action Wednesday afternoon at the Mangione Aquatic Center.

Siena's 200-yard freestyle `A' relay team edged the `A' relay from Loyola (Meghan Barry, Megan Royer, Nicole Romano and Lauren Mari) at the wall, as both teams clocked times of 1:39.46, but the Saints earned the judges' decision. The Greyhounds' 'B' squad (Megan Shovlin, Ginna Sabens, Casey McCusker and Kelly Hurley), however, claimed third place in the event, garnering the meet-clinching two points for the victory.

Individually, Courtney Trivino won three events, while Shovlin and Mary Henkels took first in two and one, respectively.

Shovlin won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:40.39, beating teammate Caitlin Winkler who was second in 10:57.87.

Trivino then edged Henkels in a close 100-yard backstroke. Trivino touched the wall in 1:00.45, beating Henkels by just a one-quarter of a second.

Abby Wiese, Taylor Moore, Sara Mion and Micaela Dumm picked up points for the Greyhounds in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing second through fifth, respectively. Royer and Mari then finished second and third in the 50-yard freestyle with Royer beating her teammate by one one-hundredth of a second (25.01).

Henkels was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke, swimming 2:11.28, to beat teammate Carissa McStay who was second in 2:12.15.

Trivino outpaced the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:28.97, and Shovlin posted another distance freestyle win, touching the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.50).

Trivino set up the Greyhounds' victory with a first-place effort in the 400-yard individual medley, the meet's next-to-last event. She swan 4:41.15, beating teammate Mary Jane Pijanowski (4:49.69) who was second.

The Greyhounds' women and men are back in action on Saturday, January 16, when they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., for a 1 o'clock MAAC meet at Rider.
