BALTIMORE - Sam McQuaid, Matt Fralinger, Ozzy Torres and Scott Heil opened the Thomas Murphy Invitational in fine fashion for the Loyola University Maryland men's swimming team, clocking a time of 3:28.61, to post one of the five fastest times in school history in the 400-yard medley relay.
The Greyhounds men lead Johns Hopkins, 60-31, after the first session on Friday night. Loyola's women trail the Blue Jays, 66-25, Saint Francis (Pa.), 68-23, and Richmond, 71.5-19.5.
Two sessions will take place on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Loyola took the top four places in the men's 500-yard freestyle, led by Brennan Morris' time of 4:31.83. Heil took second in 4:40.85, followed by Ben Duva and Ryan Shovlin with times of 4:53.63 and 4:55.44, respectively.
The Greyhounds then took second and third in the 200-yard individual medley with Jacob Drannan (1:55.50) and Patrick Mukri (1:56.94).
Caitlin Cronin placed fifth in the women's 50-yard freestyle in 24.77, and Ozzy Torres and Jeff Rowe took first and second on the men's side with times of 21.70 and 21.73.
Loyola closed the meet with a victory in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay, as Morris, Torres, Mukri and Heil clocked a winning time of 6:56.40.
