LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meet Saturday, dropping head-to-head action to the Broncs at Richard A. Coppola Pool in Maurer Center. The men lost by a score of 182.5-114.5, while the women finished with a 155-139 final score.
Sophomore Caitlin Cronin recorded four victories throughout the day, winning three individual events and one relay, while junior Brennan Morris ran his undefeated streak in individual events to 17-straight this season, winning three. He set a new pool record in the 500y freestyle, winning in 4:37.88, while he topped the field in the 200y breaststroke in 2:09.42 and the 1000y freestyle in 9:30.16. Morris also joined Jeffrey Rowe, Patrick Mukri and Julien Brice on the winning 200y medley relay team that combined for a second-place time of 1:37.27.
Cronin won the 50y freestyle in 24.51, the 100y freestyle in 52.76 and the 200y freestyle in 1:53.12. She also anchored the 400y freestyle team of Mary Henkels, Lauren Mari and Brianna Keelan to victory, finishing in 3:37.21.
Henkels also won an individual event, claiming top honors in the 100y backstroke with a time of 1:00.07, and was on the 200y medley relay with Maya Olivieri, Courtney Chenet and Mari that finished second in 1:51.74. She also finished third in the 200y backstroke (2:10.95).
Mari nabbed a second and third-place finish in the 100y freestyle (55.78) and 50y freestyle (25.69), respectively, while Olivieri and Chenet each notched runner-up finishes. Olivieri took second in the 100y breaststroke in 1:10.66, while Chenet was second in the 200y breaststroke in 2:32.30.
On the men's side, the 400y freestyle relay of Brice, Tony Florida, Michael Kelly and Ryan Leonard finished first in 3:19.11.
In addition, Mukri earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100y backstroke (53.81) and the 200y backstroke (1:58.56), while Rowe and Ben Duva both had top-three finishes. Rowe finished second in the 50y freestyle in 22.43 and took third in the 100y butterfly (53.96). Duva was second in the 1000y freestyle (10:03.26), while clocking in at 4:54.66 for third in the 500y freestyle and took third in the 200y IM (2:01.20).
Rounding out Loyola's top-three finishers in swimming events was Erin Calderoni, Ryan Shovlin and Courtney Trivino - who each claimed two third-place finishes - in addition to Brice and Florida, who each earned one third-place finish.
Calderoni took third in the 500y freestyle (5:19.17) and 1000y freestyle (10:54.20), while Shovlin finished the 200y freestyle in 1:47.33 and the 200y butterfly in 2:02.04. Trivino clocked in at 2:15.26 in the 200y IM and 2:12.98 in the 200y butterfly. Brice was third in the 50y freestyle (22.50) and Florida took third in the 100y freestyle (49.26).
In diving events, Elle Mixa swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events. She scored 226.27 in the 1-meter diving and 212.92 in the 3-meter diving.
Loyola will return to action next weekend, heading to UMBC to face the Retrievers and Towson on Saturday, Jan. 21.
