Five Greyhounds Win Titles At Thomas Murphy Invitational

BALTIMORE - Senior Brennan Morris, junior Caitlin Cronin and freshman Kait Richter all won races in the pool Saturday, while juniors Victoria Arturi and Michael Brown swept the diving events to lead the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team on the second day of the Thomas Murphy Invitational at Mangione Pool at the Fitness and Aquatics Center.

Morris swept the 400 yard IM (4:02.66) and the 1650 yard freestyle (15:57.28) to pick up four more individual titles and go undefeated in individual events this weekend, as he also won the 500 free Friday night.

Junior Caitlin Cronin also picked up more individual wins, collecting six in total, by sweeping the 100 free (52.70) and the 200 free (1:55.20).

Freshman Kait Richter won her first race, the 200 fly, with a time of 2:11.78, while she also picked up a third-place finish in the 100 fly in 1:00.58.

In diving events, Arturi added a 3-meter title to her win from the 1-meter competition on Friday, collecting a score of 209.47. Junior Elizabeth Mixa finished runner-up with a score of 197.62.

On the men's side, Brown swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events, winning the 1-meter on Saturday with a score of 192.07. Freshman Ryan Conley finished second to Brown with a score of 169.12.

The Greyhounds also had a handful of third-place finishes, led by Lizzie Mckenna's pair in the 100 back (1:00.39) and 200 back (2:10.53).

In the 400 IM, junior Courtney Chenet was third in 4:43.26, while senior Ryan Shovlin earned the same place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.07.

Freshman Madison Hardimon finished third in the 200 free (1:46.80), graduate student Ryan Shea was third in the 100 free (47.57) and freshman Timmy Barry touched third in the 100 back (53.64).

In the 1650 free, junior Samantha Berizzi was third on the women's side with a time of 18:31.69, while classmate Bryan Bedacht was third on the men's side, touching in 16:47.97.

As a team, the men's side beat Marywood, 275-75, while falling to Johns Hopkins, 249-96. The women's squad also beat Marywood, 309-51, but fell to Johns Hopkins, 207-150, and Saint Francis (Pa.), 234-124.

Loyola will return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 30 for the two-day H2ounds Invitational. Iona, Marist and Saint Peter's will all visit Baltimore for the meet, with events beginning at 5 p.m., Friday, and then again at 10 a.m., and 3 p.m., on Saturday.
