Morris Wins Third-Straight 400 IM MAAC Title

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Junior Brennan Morris won his ninth MAAC title Saturday - and his third-straight in the 400-yard IM - to lead the Loyola swimming and diving team on the second day of the conference meet at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center at Erie Community College. With the win, Morris remained undefeated in individual events this season, winning his 26-straight race in a time of 3:50.16.

Junior Ryan Shovlin also scored in the 400 IM, finishing fifth in 4:08.95, while sophomore Bryan Bedacht was seventh in 4:10.28 and sophomore Ben Duva was eighth with a time of 4:10.89.

On the women's side, senior Courtney Trivino earned runner-up honors in the 400 IM, touching in 4:33.64, while sophomore Courtney Chenet was fourth in 4:34.51.

The Greyhounds also earned runner-up honors from Caitlin Cronin in the 200 free (1:50.53) and senior Mary Henkels in the 100 back (58.14).

In the 1000 free, Bedacht took third with a time of 9:38.96, while Duva touched fifth in 9:39.77.

Junior Jeffrey Rowe made the podium in the 100 fly, taking third in 50.76, while senior Patrick Mukri barely missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 100 back (52.32). Mukri also finished seventh in the 200 free in 1:43.41.

In addition, Loyola received a pair of sixth-place finishes on the women's side, with freshman Erin Calderoni finishing the 200 free in 1:54.91 and senior Meghan Barry touching in 59.91 in the 100 back.

The Greyhound women also had freshman Maya Olivieri finish seventh in the 100 breast (1:06.63).

In relay events, Loyola's women's squad of Henkels, Olivieri, sophomore Erin Shea and Cronin finished second in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.69. The men's team of Morris, Rowe, Mukri and sophomore Julien Brice also touched second, combining for a time of 1:33.01.

Following 29 events, the women sit third with 348 points. Marist leads the competition with 541.5 points, while Rider is second with 448.5 points.

On the men's side, the Greyhounds are currently fourth with 374 points. Rider is first with 533 points, Marist is second at 419 points and Canisius is third with 410 points.

Loyola will conclude the conference meet tomorrow. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
