Five Swimmers And Divers Win Events In Season Opener

BALTIMORE - Five Greyhounds won individual events Friday evening in the Loyola University Maryland's season-opening swimming and diving meet. The swimmers competed at American University, while the diving events were held at Loyola.

Senior Caitlin Cronin led the women's swimmers, while classmate Elle Mixa led the divers, with each notching a first and second place finish. Cronin won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.01 and finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.31. Mixa won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 234.22 and was second in 3-meter diving (213.00).

On the men's side, senior Zach Eller won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.83, while senior Mike Brown and sophomore Ryan Conley swept the diving events. Brown won 1-meter diving with a score of 279.00. He also finished second to Conley in 3-meter diving with a score of 244.05. Conley won the event with a mark of 253.50.

Freshman Becca Meyers and junior Erin Calderoni rounded out the Greyhounds' top finishers, as Meyers was the runner-up in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.38. Calderoni took third in the race, touching in 5:15.02.

Loyola will return to action tomorrow with events beginning at noon. The Greyhounds will wrap up competition with an evening session beginning at 5 p.m.
