Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 4 Syracuse Starts Hot, Holds Off No. 12 Women's Lacrosse, 15-11

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The 12th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team outscored No. 4 Syracuse 7-3 in the second half, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome a 7-0 start by the Orange, as Syracuse held off the Greyhounds for a 15-11 win in the Carrier Dome Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Livy Rosenzweig led all players with eight points, scoring four goals and assisting four others, including having a hand in five of Loyola's seven second-half goals.

Senior Hannah Powers and sophomore Sam Fiedler also contributed hat tricks for the Greyhounds, with Fiedler finishing with three goals and two assists, and Powers contributing three goals and one assist.

Freshman Jillian Wilson rounded out the Greyhounds' scoring with her first collegiate goal.

Emily Hawryschuk led the Orange and shared game-high honors in goals with Rosenzweig, scoring four times.

Syracuse started hot, rattling off seven-straight goals before Fiedler was able to get the Greyhounds on the board at 13:15. Rosenzweig then put in back-to-back goals after another 3-0 Syracuse run, and Powers moved the score to 10-4 with a third-straight Greyhound goal at 4:44.

The Orange racked up two more goals to take a 12-4 advantage into halftime, though.

Loyola came out of the break and fired the first goal into the back of the net just 50 seconds into play. Syracuse answered with two goals, extending their lead to 14-5, but the Greyhounds scored six of the next seven goals before time expired.

Wilson had netted her first collegiate goal at 21:27, followed by goals from Fiedler, Powers and Rosenzweig, marking a four-goal run that brought Loyola within five, 14-9, with 7:28 to play. Powers and Rosenzweig scored again following the Orange's goal, but time would run out before the Greyhounds were able to complete their comeback.

In goal, senior Kady Glynn finished with nine saves.

Loyola will look to rebound on Saturday when it hosts No. 8 Penn State in the first game of a lacrosse doubleheader at Ridley Athletic Complex. Opening draw is set for noon.
