Women's Lacrosse Earns 17-9 Win At American

The 11th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team earned a 17-9 win over American at Jacobs Complex Wednesday afternoon.
 
Freshman Jillian Wilson led the Greyhounds (7-3 overall, 3-0 Patriot League) with four points, scoring twice and adding two assists, while senior Emily Cooper contributed a hat trick. Senior Amanda Ignacio and Hannah Powers, and sophomore Elli Kluegel each scored two goals, while senior Taylor VanThof, sophomores Emily Beier, Livy Rosenzweig, Liz Scott and Sam Fiedler, and freshman Katie Detwiler rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
 
American's Casey Harkins led all players with four goals and five points.
 
VanThof started the scoring in the game at 29:24, but the Eagles tied the game at 1-1 with a goal at 28:02.
 
A four-goal Greyhound run gave Loyola a 5-1 advantage by the 19-minute mark, with Kluegel scoring first, followed by Fiedler and a pair of highlight-reel goals by Cooper. American snapped the streak at 14:27, but a goal from Wilson and Rosenzweig pushed Loyola ahead five, 7-2, at the 9:56 mark.
 
Powers and Beier then answered the Eagles' two goals to send Loyola into the halftime break with a 9-4 advantage.
 
The Eagles scored three of the first four goals of the second half to pull within three, 10-7, before a four-goal run regained a 14-7 advantage. Ignacio started and finished the run, sandwiching goals around ones from Kluegel and Wilson.
 
Detwiler answered American's next goal with her first collegiate score at 8:15. Following American's goal at 6:01, Cooper and Scott closed out the scoring with a goal each, bringing the final count to 17-9.
 
Rosenzweig led the Greyhounds with five draw controls, while Powers won four. Senior Lindsey Ehrhardt also finished with a career-high six ground balls and added three caused turnovers.
 
In goal, senior Kady Glynn turned back 12 saves for her 20th collegiate double digit save game.
 
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Sunday when they host Boston University at 1 p.m.
