Second-Half Run Helps No. 8 Princeton Get Past No. 10 Women's Lacrosse In NCAA Second Round

PRINCETON, N.J. - The 10th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close with a 17-13 loss to No. 8 Princeton in a rainy and wet NCAA Second Round game played at the Class of 1952 Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Senior Hannah Powers scored five goals and added an assist to become the program's all-time career leader in points with 317 throughout her career. She passed Grace Gavin's previous record of 311 points from 2008-11. Powers also concluded her career with 187 goals, good for fourth in all-time Loyola history, and 130 assists, which stands second in program history.

Sophomore Livy Rosenzweig also hit a personal milestone today, scoring her 100th career goal to become the third player in program history to reach the 100 goal and 100 assist mark in just their sophomore season. In just two seasons, she's already entered Loyola's career records for goals (30th with 101), assists (fourth with 117), points (ninth with 218) and draw controls (fourth with 174. She also finished the year with Loyola's single-season assists (70) and points (116) records.

In addition to Powers and Rosenzweig, freshman Jillian Wilson also added a hat trick today, scoring three goals and adding one assist, while sophomore Sam Fiedler had one goal and two assists, and senior Taylor VanThof had one goal. VanThof will graduate as Loyola's all-time career (392), season (146) and game (21) draw controls record holder.

Defensively, senior Kristen Yanchoris caused three turnovers, while classmate Lindsey Ehrhardt finished with two to finish the season tied for third in Loyola's single-season caused turnovers records with 45.

In goal, senior Kady Glynn picked up four saves in her final collegiate contest. She concludes her career with 482 saves, good for eighth on Loyola's career records.

Powers and Rosenzweig scored the first two goals of the game, but the Tigers answered with four-straight goals to flip the two-goal advantage Princeton's way, 4-2, by the 19:36 mark. Wilson sent a pass across the face of the goal at 18:23 for Rosenzweig to finish, but the Greyhounds would be unable to even the game, as Sears netted back-to-back goals for the Tigers, giving them a 6-3 lead at 14:09.

An unassisted strike from Powers at 12:33 cut Loyola's deficit to two, and then her assist to Fiedler at 8:24 kept the Greyhounds within two, 7-5.

Wilson scored back-to-back goals after that, putting away a pair of passes from Fiedler, to get Loyola back within one, 8-7, at the 5:15 mark. Powers then answered Princeton's next goal to sent the Greyhounds into the break trailing by one, 9-8.

The Tigers came out of the break on fire though, scoring six-straight goals before Powers was able to get the Greyhounds on the board at 16:53m but Princeton used another pair of goals to stretch its lead to eight, at 17-9, with 8:13 to play.

Loyola won the next two draw controls and scored a pair of quick goals, with Wilson scoring – assisted by Rosenzweig – at 6:01. Rosenzweig then found the back of the net 18 seconds later, bringing Loyola within six, 17-11, at 5:43.

Goals from VanThof and Powers pulled the Greyhounds within four at 2:24, but Loyola would be unable to make up for the Tigers' run at the opening of the second half.

Loyola concludes its season in the second round of the NCAA Championships for a second-straight year. This year's senior class graduates with two Patriot League Championships, four-straight undefeated Patriot League regular season titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
