BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland student-athletes continued to raise the bar academically during the Fall 2020 semester, with the Greyhounds setting new athletic department records in both cumulative grade-point average and number of Dean's List students.
Loyola's 451 student-athletes combined for a semester GPA of 3.525, raising the department's cumulative average to 3.471. A remarkable 255 student-athletes (56.5 percent) achieved Dean's List status after recording a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing 15 or more credits.
Every Loyola program finished the fall with a team GPA over 3.0, with 11 programs finishing above a 3.5. Men's tennis (3.769) and women's lacrosse (3.765) were neck-and-neck for the top spot overall for the fall semester, while women's tennis leads the way with a 3.710 cumulative GPA.
"Our student-athletes had another amazing semester academically, even with the continued challenges of adapting to a virtual learning environment," said
Colleen Campbell, Loyola's director of student-athlete support services. "It is always rewarding to see their hard work pay off, and as always we'd like to thank the faculty, staff, coaches and administrators for the support they provide on a daily basis."
This fall alone saw 67 student-athletes (14.9 percent) record a perfect 4.0 GPA. Seventeen student-athletes continue to maintain a cumulative 4.0 average, including one senior (women's lacrosse's
Elli Kluegel) and one junior (men's swimming and diving's
Jimmy Hayburn).
Women's swimming and diving led all programs with 12 individuals managing a 4.0, while women's soccer was in second place with nine. Loyola's women's teams combined to post a 3.672 GPA during the fall semester, and the men's programs combined for a 3.351 semester GPA.
