Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Syracuse in NCAA Second Round

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Meaghan Tyrell totaled seven goals and three assists, while her younger sister Emma Tyrell added four goals and three assists for No. 3 Syracuse, which topped Loyola University Maryland by a 20-8 final to end the Greyhounds' season in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Loyola (12-3) suffered its first defeat since February 24 as a 12-game winning streak came to an end. The Orange (15-3) advance to face sixth-seeded Florida in the quarterfinals next weekend.

Jillian Wilson supplied three goals, one assist and three caused turnovers for the Greyhounds, while Livy Rosenzweig finished with four assists and nine draw controls. Elli Kluegel and Catie Corolla chipped in two goals apiece for the visitors.

Rosenzweig set up Corolla for a goal 7:30 into the opening half which tied the score at 2-2. The Orange went ahead for good on their next possession, as an Emma Tyrell strike started a 5-0 run. The advantage was 13-4 at the intermission, and Loyola could get no closer than eight during the second half.

Wilson's hat trick was her fourth of the season and 13th of her collegiate career. With her four assists today, Rosenzweig will enter next season with 328 career points, three back of Navy's Jenna Collins for third all-time in Patriot League history.

Katie Detwiler added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers defensively, while Amber Bustard totaled two saves and two ground balls in goal during the later stages of the first half.

The Greyhounds conclude their season in the second round of the NCAA tournament for a third-consecutive year. They have advanced to the national tournament in nine of the last 10 completed season, winning at least one game in eight of those appearances.
