Loyola Hosts Virtual Iggys Ceremony to Celebrate 2020-21

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland hosted its annual Iggys Awards ceremony in a virtual format for a second-straight year on Monday night, with student-athletes and athletic department members coming together online to celebrate the athletic and academic accomplishments of the Greyhounds throughout the 2020-21 academic year.

Male Freshman of the Year
Caleb Kelly set school records in the 50 and 100 freestyles during the 2021 season and recorded an NCAA 'B' Cut time in the 50 free. He won two individual events, was on five winning relays at the Patriot League Challenge and was a part of two record-setting relays during the season. 
 
Female Freshman of the Year 
Lily Mead set six school records during the season in the 50 freestyle, 50 and 100 backstrokes, 200 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley and was a part of two record-setting relay teams. She set a Mangione Aquatic Center record in the 50 freestyle and had three NCAA 'B' Cut Times. She was also ranked No. 1 in the Patriot League in four events during a fantastic season. 
 
Male Sophomore of the Year 
Santi Aldama put together one of the top seasons in Loyola basketball history, earning All-Patriot League First Team recognition, All-Region First Team honors and an Academic All-Patriot League award. He was one of two NCAA Division I players to average more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, and he finished the year leading the conference in rebounds and ranking second in points per game. 
 
Female Sophomore of the Year 
Emily Wills was a second-team All-Patriot League honoree who was a key member of the Greyhounds offensive unit that helped win the Patriot League title this season. She had three goals in the Patriot League Championship Game and accumulated 11 multi-point games on the year. 
 
Male Junior of the Year 
An All-Patriot League First Team honoree, Cam Wyers has been one of the best cover defenders in the nation this season, earning Midseason All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse. He leads the team's non-faceoff specialists in ground balls and is one of the top players in the nation in caused turnovers. 
 
Female Junior of the Year 
Katie Forsythe was named the Patriot League Libero of the Year for a third-straight season after finishing fourth in NCAA Division I in digs per set. The three-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree had 18 or more digs in every match this season and 36 or more in half of the Greyhounds' contests.  
 
Male Senior of the Year 
Evan Brown enters this week's NCAA Regional with the second-best scoring average in school history, behind only his record-breaking season last year. He is an All-Patriot League First Team selection and also was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team while finishing second at the Patriot League Championships. He won Penn State's Rutherford Intercollegiate with a tournament-record score and has five top-five finishes in six events. 
 
Female Senior of the Year
Livy Rosenzweig was named the Patriot League Attacker of the Year and earned Patriot League Championships Most Valuable Player honors. She was a Top-25 semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Award and recently set the Loyola record for career points and Patriot League record for career assists. 

Male Super Senior of the Year
Ryan McNulty earned All-Patriot League First Team honors as a long-stick midfielder and was a Midseason Second-Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse. He is a key member of the Loyola defensive unit that is ranked No. 7 nationally in scoring defense and No. 3 in clearing percentage while also scoring four goals with six assists this season.

Female Super Senior of the Year
Rachel Koller broke out as a senior and became Loyola's first-ever scorer in the shortest sprinting races at the Patriot League Championships, finishing fifth in the 100 meters and seventh in the 200. She set school 100-meter records multiple times during the season and has now run the three fastest times in school history.
 
Men's Fr. McManamin Unsung Hero Award
Brandon Bradsher joined the Loyola men's basketball program as a team manager during his freshman year before earning a spot as a walk-on his sophomore year. He brought a tremendous amount of positive energy and was an exceptional teammate for two seasons, and then he stepped into a big role this year. Brandon started several games at the beginning of the season due to injuries at the team's guard spots, and he came up huge, scoring 21 points in the season-opener against Lafayette. 
 
Female Fr. McManamin Unsung Hero Award
Liz Scott will graduate from Loyola having helped to influence the women's lacrosse program's "locker room-out" mentality like no other player. She consistently stepped into different roles on the field, fulfilling specialty roles many times for the betterment of the team. From the moment she stepped on campus, Liz brought forth a selfless nature with a great amount of positivity and fun. She stared adversity in the face after her father unexpectedly passed away going into her sophomore year, but she has lived his message of "work hard, have fun and get it done!"  
 
Male Anne McCloskey Leadership Award 
Isaiah Hart's dedication to improving his own game as a freshman transitioned to leading his teammates to put in as much work as he did, as he became a leader of the men's basketball team in extra workouts, shooting and conditioning. His leadership was evident when he was injured early in the season but still worked as a player-coach, getting in work after games and practices. Isaiah has been a tremendous leader on campus, as well, working with men's basketball community outreach as well as serving on the SAAC executive board. 
 
Female Anne McCloskey Leadership Award
Holly Lloyd returned to the Loyola women's lacrosse program as a graduate student this year, and her leadership within in the program has continued to increase the accountability of teammates and positive team culture. She has started every game the last two years and helped Loyola recently win a Patriot League Championship. She has served as a member of the SAAC Executive Board and was a tremendous leader even this year during virtual meetings, helping facilitate discussions through difficult topics. She has represented Loyola at the Athlete Leadership Connection in New York City and is a proud ambassador of Loyola's mission. 
 
John Mohler Award
Evan Brown has established himself as perhaps the best golfer in Loyola University Maryland history. This year, he posted top-five finishes in five of the six tournaments that the Greyhounds played, winning Penn State's Rutherford Intercollegiate with a tournament record score. He helped lead the Greyhounds to a Patriot League Championship earlier this month, finishing second and earning All-Patriot League honors for the second time. He is on-pace to have the second-best scoring average in Loyola history behind only the mark he set last year. Evan has also been a PING Regional All-American and this year was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. 
 
Ernest Lagna Award
Senna Ohlsson will graduate from Loyola University Maryland as the most accomplished track and field athlete in school history. She has won four Patriot League Championships, claiming top honors in the 800 meters in each of the last two indoor and outdoor championships. This year, she won the 800 at the outdoor meet in Patriot League record time, and she lowered her school record at the ECAC Championships last weekend while strengthening her NCAA qualifying mark. Senna became Loyola's first-ever ECAC Indoor Track & Field Champion, and last summer she ran in the Swedish National Championships, finishing third and taking bronze. She will graduate from Loyola as a four-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree and move on to Yale University's graduate school in the fall where she will continue her studies and dedication to environmental causes and bettering the earth through policy and awareness. 
 
Diane Geppi-Aikens Inspiration Award
Stephen Machak is a paraplegic swimmer who came to Loyola four years ago with a mindset that he would never allow that challenge to get in his way academically or athletically. He has been a member of the swimming and diving team all four years while setting American Paralympic Swimming record in the S6 category. His determination was recently featured on ESPN as video of him was shared and used while he was performing strength training, doing pull-ups in his wheelchair. He has been a very active and visible member of campus, serving on the Green and Grey Society, while maintaining a GPA north of 3.8. Stephen has also been key in helping to bring a large Paralympic Swimming event to the State of Maryland, further showing his dedication to his sport while he is a major inspiration to his team and others to overcome challenges that are presented.
 
Women's tennis posted the highest team cumulative grade-point average (3.71) for a third-straight year, while Aidan Olmstead (3.917) from men's lacrosse and Elli Kluegel (4.00) from women's lacrosse  were recognized as the seniors with the highest GPA.
