Loyola Student-Athletes Maintain Record-High Cumulative GPA after Spring Semester

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland student-athletes completed another outstanding semester in the classroom this spring, as the Greyhounds posted a combined grade-point average of 3.501 and had 61 standouts record a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Those numbers raise the athletic department's cumulative GPA to an all-time high figure of 3.487. An impressive 217 student-athletes (just under 50 percent) achieved Dean's List status after recording a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing 15 or more credits, and 319 Greyhounds currently have a GPA above 3.2.

Every program recorded a semester GPA above 3.0, with 10 teams posting a mark over 3.5. For the second time in athletic department history, every program now has a cumulative GPA above a 3.0, with women's tennis leading the way at 3.720.

"We are proud to share the numbers for another remarkable academic performance by our student-athletes," said Colleen Campbell, Loyola's director of student-athlete support services. "We once again thank the faculty, staff, coaches and administrators for their daily support, and of course the biggest congratulations goes to our students for maintaining such a high academic standard as they made their return to competition this spring."

Women's tennis also managed the highest semester GPA (3.761), while women's lacrosse had a department-high 10 student-athletes record a 4.0 GPA during the program's run to a fifth Patriot League championship in the last seven seasons.

Women's lacrosse senior Elli Kluegel graduated with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, while men's swimming and diving member Jimmy Hayburn will also enter his upcoming senior year with a 4.0. They lead a group of 11 Greyhounds who maintain perfect grade-point averages.

Loyola's golf program, which won its fourth Patriot League title earlier this spring, led the men's teams with a 3.547 GPA last semester. The men's teams combined for a 3.375 semester GPA, while the women's programs posted a combined mark of 3.614.
