BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team played its final regular-season match on Thursday, sweeping visiting Stevenson University, 7-0, at the McClure Tennis Center.
Loyola will open play in the 2022 Patriot League Men's Tennis Championships on Friday, April 29, when it plays Lehigh University at 3:15 p.m. at the U.S. Naval Academy.
The three Greyhounds doubles teams yielded just two total points on Thursday to the Mustangs.
Edik Pribitkin and
Matt Cardano topped Ben Porto and Lukas Sanidas, 6-0, at No. 2, while the other Greyhounds teams won by scores of 6-1.
Skyler Gates and
George Cavo beat Larry Johnson III and J.J. Bonta at No. 1, and
Liam Rompere and
Oliver Davey topped Simon Smith and Sathwik Madasi at No. 3.
In the singles matches, Gates was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Porto, and Pribitkin got past Johnson, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Cardano beat Bonta, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3, and Cavo was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Sanidas at No. 4.
Cardano's win was his 24th in singles this season, moving him past John McConnell '03 and Bobby Gorczakowski '13 for second all-time.
Rompere defeated Madasi, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5, and
Ryan Boland used the same scores to down Niko Bifsas.
