No. 7 Women's Lax Earns Sixth Patriot League Title WIth 15-8 Win Over Navy

BALTIMORE - The top-seeded and seventh-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team captured its sixth Patriot League Championship Saturday afternoon with a 15-8 win over third-seeded Navy in a rain-soaked contest at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Patriot League Tournament MVP Livy Rosenzweig led all players with six points, scoring once and assisting five others, while senior Jillian Wilson had a game-high five goals and joined Rosenzweig, senior defender Katie Detwiler and graduate student goalkeeper Kaitlyn Larsson on the All-Tournament Team.

Graduate student Sam Fielder and freshman Georgia Latch each contributed a hat trick, with Fiedler (3g, 2a) finishing with five points and Latch (3g, 1a) four points. Graduate student Elli Kluegel scored twice in the game and sophomore Sydni Black contributed one goal.

Rosenzweig also won eight draw controls, while Wilson added four.

In goal, Larsson stopped nine shots for the Greyhounds (18-1 overall).

For Navy (15-5), Kasey Dietzel led the way with three goals and four points.

Fiedler found Wilson for the game's first goal at the 13:49 mark, but Navy had a quick answer, scoring 1:09 later to tie the game at 1-1. Wilson's second goal would spark a 6-0 Greyhound run that put them ahead 7-1 by the 12:37 mark of the second quarter. Kluegel scored back to-back goals following Wilson's strike, before Loyola got goals from Latch and Fiedler. Wilson capped off the run with her third goal of the game, marking her eighth hat trick of the season, and 21st of her career.

The Mids halted Loyola's run with a goal at 11:57, but back-to-back goals from Latch gave her her sixth hat trick of the season and made her just the sixth rookie in Loyola's history to reach 60 points in their freshman season. Navy capped off the first half scoring with a goal 2:12 before the break, sending Loyola into the break with a 9-3 advantage.

Loyola got a pair of goals within the first 90 seconds of the third quarter to move ahead 11-3 as a pass from Wilson found the back of the net before the Greyhounds capitalized on a quick restart, as Rosenzweig found Fiedler wide open in front of the goal at the 13:36 mark. Navy scored next, moving the score to 11-4. Rosenzweig netted her first goal of the game with 5:49 to play in the third quarter, but the Mids closed out the stanza with their first consecutive goals to enter the fourth quarter with a 12-6 deficit.

Navy made it three-straight goals with the first score of the fourth quarter but Rosenzweig found Wilson to keep the Greyhounds ahead, 13-7, with 10:19 to play. Fiedler then converted a free position shot to answer Navy's eighth goal, moving the score to 14-8.

Black's goal with 1:26 to play proved to be the game's final goal, accounting for the 15-8 final.

With the win, the Greyhounds improve their win streak to nine-straight games this season and to 18-straight games at Ridley Athletic Complex, as they've posted a perfect 10-0 record at home this season. Loyola has also won its last 29-straight games against a conference opponent.

Up next, the Greyhounds will learn of their NCAA Tournament match-up Sunday night during the NCAA Selection Show. The bracket is set to be revealed live on ESPNU beginning at 9 p.m. First and second round games will be played on campus sites Friday, May 13 and 15, respectively, with the quarterfinal round taking place on Thursday, May 19.
