Baltimore, Md. -- The eighth-seeded Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team got hat tricks from graduate student
Jillian Wilson and sophomore
Chase Boyle, and the Greyhounds held off a late Fairfield University rally to win 11-6 in the first round of the NCAA Championships at Ridley Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.
Wilson and Boyle led all players with four points each, while
Georgia Latch and
Emily Wills both added three points on the afternoon of their own.
Anna Ruby added a goal and an assist on the afternoon to round out the scoring for the Greyhounds (18-2 overall).
With the win, Loyola will face Stony Brook on Sunday, May 14, in the second round. Game time is set for 2 o'clock on ESPN+ from Ridley Athletic Complex. Tickets can be purchased by

The Greyhounds did not take long to get the scoring started, as
Anna Ruby scored the first goal of the game, thanks to an assist from
Emily Wills at the 12:21 mark of the first quarter. The Stags (14-5 overall) responded at the 9:11 mark of the first quarter, but did not have an answer the the Greyhounds in the rest of the first half, as the Greyhounds went on an 7-0 run to close out the first half. Boyle and Wilson led the way in the first half with two goals each, while
Emily Wills had a hat-trick of assists.
The Stags did not wait long to cut into their deficit in the second half, as they scored just 16 seconds into the half, thanks to a goal from Libby Rowe. From there, both teams found themselves in a defensive battle, as neither team scored over the next ten minutes of game time.
Chase Boyle broke the scoring drought, as she scored her third goal of the game, on an assist from
Georgia Latch.
In the fourth quarter, the Stags once again starting fast, scoring 27 seconds into the quarter. Boyle scored her fourth of the game with 13:30 left in the fourth quarter to make it a 10-3 Greyhounds lead. From there, the Stags scored three straight goals to cut the deficit to four goals, but
Jillian Wilson added a late goal to secure the win for the Greyhounds.
Chase Boyle had a game-high four goals, while
Jillian Wilson had three goals and an assist.
Emily Wills led with three assists on the day, and
Georgia Latch had a goal and two assists.
Lauren Spence came up big in goal, tallying 11 saves, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Lily Osborne and
Cydney Lisk both added two ground balls on the day, while Boyle also added two caused turnovers.
The Greyhounds controlled the possession throughout the game, in part to their 15-6 advantage in the draw control.
The Stags were led by Libby Rowe and Ellie Grefenstette with two goals each. Casey Collins had seven saves in net.
