Chase Boyle had a game-high seven points on the night for the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team, as the Greyhounds closed out the regular season with a 16-5 win over Bucknell University.
With her fourth goal in the first quarter,
Chase Boyle broke the Loyola single-season goals record, set by Grace Gavin ('11) and Kara Burke ('15) with 71. Boyle finished the game with six goals, bringing the total to 74 on the season.
With the win, the Greyhounds secured their 8
th straight Patriot League Regular Season Championship and their 84
th straight regular season Patriot League win.
Boyle had six goals and one assist on the night, while
Sydni Black had four goals and two assists, while
Georgia Latch had two goals and four assists.
Elisa Faklaris added two goals, while
Regan Kielmeyer had two assists.
The Greyhounds (15-2 overall, 9-0 Patriot League) started the game strong, as they scored the first 15 goals of the game.
They started fast in the first quarter, as
Chase Boyle scored the opening goal just 19 seconds into the game, off an assist from
Regan Kielmeyer.
Georgia Latch added another goal just 28 seconds later, as Loyola took a early 2-0 lead. Boyle added her second of the game with 11:06 remaining in the opening quarter, as she shot high for the goal.
Sydni Black joined in on the action, as she converted on a free position goal, before
Chase Boyle scored back-to-back goals, as Loyola led 6-0 with 2:48 left in the first quarter.
Elisa Faklaris and Boyle both added a pair of goals in the last 1:38 of the first quarter, to take a 8-0 first quarter lead.
The Greyhounds pace slowed in the second quarter, as they scored their first goal of the second quarter with 11:47 remaining, as
Chase Boyle found
Avery Ruhnke for the goal. Faklaris followed it up with her second goal of the game, as she converted the free position attempt.
Latch and Black added a goal each down the stretch of the second quarter, as the Greyhounds led 12-0 at the half.
The Greyhounds opened the second half with three goals within the first seven minutes of the quarter, as Black scored a pair of goals, followed by Boyles sixth goal, as the Greyhounds took a commanding 15-0 lead.
From there, the Bison (5-10 overall, 3-6 Patriot League) were able to get on the board, as they scored five of the last six goals, as the Greyhounds rotated the team down the stretch, as Loyola went on to win 16-5.
Loyola controlled the possession throughout the game, as they won 20 of 25 draw controls, with
Chase Boyle winning 13 draws.
In her 41:38 minutes of game-time,
Lauren Spence totaled 6 saves and did not allow a goal on the night.
The Greyhounds will host the Patriot League Championship semifinal and championship, beginning next Thursday, as they will play the winner of Holy Cross vs Colgate on Thursday at 3:00 PM. The championship game will take place on Saturday at 2:30 PM, as the winner of No. 1 Loyola vs No. 4 Holy Cross/No. 5 Lehigh will play the winner of No. 2 Navy vs No. 3 Army/No. 6 Lehigh.
