Seven Greyhounds Named To CSC Academic All-District Swimming & Diving Teams

BALTIMORE – Seven members of the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named to the College Sports Communicatiors (CSC) Academic All-District teams this week, honoring their excellence in the classroom and the pool.

Lily Bistline, Lily Mead and Michela Schultz were named to the women's team, while Patrick Hayburn, Harry Hearn, Henry Mueller and Max Verheyen were recognized on the men's side.

Verheyen was the Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year while earning Academic All-Patriot League honors; he graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in May 2023 and is pursuing his Master of Emerging Media this year.

Last month, he became the program's first four-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree, picking up the honor in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. He had three top-five finishes at this year's Patriot League Championships, taking third in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley and coming in fifth in the 200 breaststroke. He was a member of the winning, and meet-record-setting, 200 medley relay team at the Championships, and he was seventh at the meet in individual points. Verheyen earned Loyola Athletics' Mohler Award as the top male senior student-athlete in 2023, and he is now a three-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree.

Mead earned Academic All-Patriot League recognition, too, and she was the ECAC Championships Female Swimmer of the Meet last month, winning individual titles in the 200 individual medley and the 200 backstroke. This came after she won the 200 backstroke for the second year in a row at the Patriot League Championships where she was sixth in individual points scored.

A biology major who will graduate in May before returning to swim for the Greyhounds in 2024-25 as a graduate student, Mead is a three-time All-Patriot League First Team member and two-time honoree on the Academic All-Patriot League Team.

Hayburn received his second-straight Academic All-Patriot League nod this year after a Patriot League Championships that saw him finish third in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle. He joined Verheyen on the 200 medley relay that set a Patriot League Championships record in winning the event, as well.

A finance major, he is also the vice president of Loyola's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and he earned All-Patriot League honors for the second year in a row.

Mueller earned All-Patriot League First Team recognition for the third-straight year and Academic All-Patriot League for the second time following the 2023-24 season. The finance major took second in the 200 backstroke, fourth in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 200 individual medley for the Greyhounds at the Patriot League Championships.

He was also a member of the 200 and 400 freestyle relays that were third at the Championships and the 800 freestyle relay that finished fourth.

Hearn picked up a pair of sixth-place finishes at the 2024 Patriot League Championships in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly races. He set a school record and had a NCAA 'B' Cut in the preliminaries of the 200 fly at the meet, and he also had an 11th-place finish for the Greyhounds in the 200-yard freestyle.

Of his eight swims at the Patriot League Championships – including his 50-yard butterfly splits to lead off races – Hearn had seven personal-best times.

Bistline was a scorer in diving for the Greyhounds at the ECAC Championships, placing 10th in both the 1- and 3-meter events.

Schultz garnered Academic All-District recognition this year after a strong Patriot League Championships performance. She was sixth in both the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle finals while also helping the Greyhounds finish fourth in the 400 medley relay. Her time in the 500 freestyle was second-best in school history.
