Student-Athletes Lauded During Commencement After Outstanding Academic Year

BALTIMORE – Ninety-two Loyola University Maryland student-athletes celebrated commencement exercises with their peers last weekend, and the Greyhounds also were noted for another tremendous academic semester at the end of the spring term.

Thirteen of the graduates received their master's degrees, while the other 79 celebrated the reception of bachelor's degrees.

During the spring semester, 63 Loyola student-athletes had perfect 4.0 grade-point averages with four of the graduating seniors – Lily Bistline (women's swimming & diving), Oliver Davey (men's tennis), Chloe Kuminkoski (women's soccer) and Anna Rico (women's tennis) – maintaining the perfect marks throughout their academic careers.

The quartert were the 2023 recipients of the Mary O'Meara Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest GPAs of graduating seniors, and they made up 36 percent of the 11 graduating seniors who received the school's Whelan Medals for having the highest academic averages in all courses.

Overall, the Greyhounds posted a spring-semester GPA of 3.486 to raise their cumulative GPA to 3.449. Every one of Loyola's 18 teams had a GPA of 3.0 or better for both the semester and cumulatively with the women's soccer team's checking in on top with a cumulative 3.685 GPA.

A total of 247 Loyola student-athletes earned Dean's List recognition in the spring, 10 more than the 237 who were so recognized in the fall semester.

A large contingent of Greyhounds were recognized with special awards and academic department medals in advance of commencement:
