Baltimore -- The Greyhounds used a 12-goal first half to jump out to a 12-3 halftime lead over the visiting Army West Point Black Knights, as the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team went on to win 16-6 in a Patriot League matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Georgia Latch led the way with a hat-trick of goals and assists, as she finished with six points on the day.
Chase Boyle scored her 200th career goal in the win, as she finished with four goals.
Elisa Faklaris added four goals, while
Emma Talago had a career-best four points (two goals, two assists).
Ava Kane opened the scored for Loyola in the first quarter, as Kane converted on the free-position goal to give the Greyhounds (5-4 overall, 2-0 Patriot League) the early lead.
Chase Boyle and
Elisa Faklaris both scored goals over the next two minutes, as Loyola's quick start gave them a 3-0 lead with 11:35 left in the opening quarter.
Army's Lily Valentini scored the opening goal for the Black Knights (5-2 overall, 1-1 Patriot League), but
Gabby Stapleton responded for the Greyhounds 45 seconds later, as Stapleton scored on a free-position for her 10th goal of the season.
Loyola continued their momentum int he first quarter, as
Emma Talago's dodge from the X and shot high-to-low, extended the Loyola lead to 5-1.
Georgia Latch added a pair of goals over the last three minutes of the first quarter, as Loyola led 7-1 leading into the second quarter.
Army's Alison Reilly scored early in the second quarter for the Black Knights, but the Greyhounds responded quickly once again, as
Chase Boyle scored on a assist from
Ava Kane a minute later, as Boyle's goal started a 5-0 run over the next nine minutes of game time.
Boyle accounted for three goals during the run, with Latch assisting on two of the goals, while Talago and Faklaris each scored goals during the run.
Army scored a goal right before half off of a free-position goal, as Loyola led 12-3 heading into halftime.
Loyola worked on running the clock in the third quarter, as their defense played strong in the quarter, holding Army to without a goal in the third quarter.
Faklaris scored her third goal of the game halfway through the third quarter, as Loyola opened up to a 10-goal lead.
Georgia Latch scored her third of the game 38 seconds later, assisted by Talago, as Loyola held a commanding 14-3 lead over Army heading into the fourth quarter.
Army scored a pair of goals within the first four minutes of the game, but did not cut their deficit below nine goals in the fourth quarter, as Faklaris and
Mechi O'Neil, who scored her first career goal, added goals late in the fourth quarter to secure the 16-6 win.
Lauren Spence had a big day in goal, recorded 12 saves, six ground balls, and a career-best four caused turnovers.
Loyola's defense posted one of their best performances of the season, as they held Army's leading scorers, Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly, to a combined three points, with Duffy, who entered the game leading the Patriot League in goals per game, to one goal, which came on a free-position.
Chase Boyle served as the primary defender on Duffy, who finished with one goal on seven shots, and four turnovers.
Lily Osborne was the primary defender on Alison Reilly, who finished with one goal and one assist on seven shots.
The Greyhounds controlled the pace of the game, as they won the draw battle 16-7, and were perfect on clears (13-13). Loyola forced four Army turnovers on clears, as the Black Knights were 13-17 on clears on the day.
The Greyhounds return to Ridley on Wednesday to cap-off their three-game homestand and non-conference play, as they will host Syracuse at 5:00 PM.
