Overview of Loyola University Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Criteria

Purpose
The Loyola University Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame was founded in 1978 to recognize and pay tribute to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of intercollegiate athletics and who have helped bring recognition, honor, distinction and excellence to Loyola University Maryland.
 
Categories & Criteria of Membership
The following criteria shall be used to determine eligibility for selection to the Loyola University Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame.
 
Special and extenuating circumstances affecting below criteria may always be considered by the committee.
 
Student-Athlete
  • Must have exhibited character and integrity through his/her success and outstanding contribution to intercollegiate athletics at Loyola University Maryland.
  • Must have competed in two intercollegiate sport seasons sponsored by the University and possess a Loyola degree.
  • Ten years must have passed between the last academic year of intercollegiate athletics eligibility and the stated date of the upcoming induction ceremony.
Coach
  • Must have contributed significantly to the welfare of student-athletes and to the progress of the University and community.
  • Must have served a minimum of 10 years tenure at the University.
  • Twenty years must have passed between the beginning of nominee's employment at the University and the stated date of the upcoming induction ceremony.
  • An active coach may be considered with at least 20 years of service to Loyola.
Team
  • Must have outstanding accomplishments beyond the conference level, or exceptional impact to their sport program, for the specific sport season. The team must have significantly contributed to the legacy and/or development of the program.
  • A minimum of 10 years must have passed between the last year of team's competition and the stated date of the upcoming induction ceremony.
  • The induction of a team into the Loyola University Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame shall not prohibit the separate induction of one or more individual members of that team.
  • Each team selected for inclusion shall be considered as one inductee for the purpose of the induction ceremony. 
Athletics Administrator
  • Must have contributed extraordinary service to Loyola University Maryland Athletics and the field of athletics.
  • Must have served a minimum of 10 years tenure at the University.
  • Twenty years must have passed between the beginning of nominee's employment at the University and the stated date of the upcoming induction ceremony.
  • An active athletics administrator may be considered with at least 20 years of service to Loyola.
Golden Greyhound
  • A Golden Greyhound is defined as an individual or team that graduated, or completed its season, 50-plus years prior to the stated date of the upcoming induction ceremony. 
Meritorious Individual
  • All individuals not related to competition, coaching and/or administration who made a significant contribution to the development of student-athletes, the University or respective sports communities shall be considered in this category.
