Biography

2022-2023 (Junior): Named the team's Most Valuable Player and earned a spot on the Acadmeic All-Patriot League Team... Posted a 22-6 record in singles with all dual meet matches coming at the No. 1 line... Finished 11-18 in doubles play... Went undefeated, 8-0, during fall tournament play... Then won his first four singles matches of the spring to start the year on a 12-match winning streak... Earned four wins in a row in late March against Villanova, Stevenson, Holy Cross and Coppin State players... Later closed the year on a four-match winning streak.

Before Loyola: Graduated from Middletown High School South where he was a four-year letterwinner in tennis… Earned All-Shore Conference honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior, picking up first-team recognition as a sophomore and junior… Qualified for the state tournament all three of those years, advancing to the third round as a junior… Won the Monmouth County No. 1 singles title as a junior after reaching the quarterfinals the previous two seasons… Named All-State Group III Second Team as a junior… Earned recognition on the Shore Conference All-Decade Second Team as a senior and was named to the All-State All-Senior Team that year (season canceled due to COVID-19)… Most Valuable Player of the tennis team as a freshman, sophomore and junior… NJSIAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior… Led Middletown South to the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA state tournament as a sophomore and junior and the semifinals of the Shore Conference Tournament each of those seasons.
 
Personal: Son of Catherine and Michael Cardano… Has two brothers, Michael and Marc… Graduated No. 6 in his high school class of more than 400 students… Served more than 700 hours of community service in high school… Member of the National Honor Society, as well as the National Spanish and National Math Honor Societies… President of Bottlecappers, a club that teaches younger students the dangers of drugs and alcohol… Earned seven awards or scholarships on his school’s Senior Awards Night, more than any other student in his class… Boys State nominee and Camp Eastern nominee… Mother played tennis at St. John’s University in Queens, New York.
