Maggie Rabenberg

Maggie Rabenberg, a 2017 Loyola University Maryland graduate and a four-year varsity rower during her time as an undergrad, returned to campus in September, 2021 to serve as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s rowing programs.

Rabenberg spent the previous four seasons as an assistant at both North Park University in Chicago and La Salle University in Philadelphia. She competed at the Patriot League Championships in each of her four years at Loyola, and earned gold medals both as a rower and during a stint as a coxswain for the men’s program.

“I am very happy to announce the hiring of Maggie as our new full-time assistant,” head coach Megan Patrick said. “She was an active and involved member of both the team and the athletic department as a student-athlete at Loyola, taking a strong leadership role in SAAC and other organizations. Maggie’s experience and enthusiasm will be a great contribution to the forward momentum of the team and will help take Loyola rowing to the next level.”

Rabenberg assisted with both the men’s and women’s programs at La Salle. She coached a women’s freshman novice 8+ boat which claimed silver at the 2021 Dad Vails regatta, the first medal for the women’s program at the prestigious regatta in a decade. Rabenberg primarily worked with the novice group and small boats as a graduate assistant at North Park, where she guided the freshman novice 4+ to a sixth place showing in the grand final at Dad Vails in 2019. That was the program’s highest-ever finish at Dad Vails and the top finish for a Division III boat that year.

“I am so excited to be returning to Loyola after four years away to work with the program that helped me build a love for the sport.” Rabenberg said. “The team has developed so much, and I hope that I am able to contribute towards continuing the momentum that Megan has created.”

Rabenberg competed at the IRA National Championship in the 2x during her junior year at Loyola. She was a three-year member of SAAC, and she was both a SAAC executive board member and Athletes4Athletes Chair during her senior year.

It was during her senior year that Rabenberg’s coaching career began as an assistant at Roland Park Country School. After graduation, she ran the Youth Summer Recreational Programs at Community Rowing, Inc., in Boston. She additionally coached with and coxswained for Recovery on Water in Chicago, a rowing team designed to empower breast cancer survivors through the sport.

Rabenberg graduated from Loyola’s honors college with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in sociology. She earned her Master of Arts in Education from North Park, and added a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from La Salle.
