One of the most recognizable faces on the Loyola University Maryland campus and longest-tenured member of the athletic department has a new title as Teddi Burns was promoted to the Greyhounds’ Deputy Athletic Director in September 2024.

Burns, who has most-recently served as an associate athletic director at the school since 2003, has been a part of the Evergreen campus for 42 years since beginning her time in Baltimore as a student-athlete in the fall of 1982.

The Pennsauken, New Jersey, native joined the athletics staff shortly after graduation and has been one of the longest-serving staff members in Loyola athletics history.

Burns will continue to serve in her role as the Greyhounds’ Senior Woman Administrator while leading facility and event operations within the athletic department.

She is also the sport supervisor for the Loyola women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse programs and a member of multiple committees both on campus and within the Patriot League.

One of the hallmark annual events within Loyola athletics has been championed by Burns over the last 20 years. The Greyhounds’ Women In Sports Day has been an event that draws hundreds of girls to a Loyola women’s basketball game each year with department student-athletes spending time with the participants and sharing their passion for women’s athletics.

While continuing those roles, Burns will assist with the strategic planning and long-range goal setting for the athletic department while also continuing to serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Loyola within Greyhounds athletics.

Burns has been a key member of the Loyola Athletics Senior Leadership Team, and she has served on the Patriot League’s Sports Management Committee and Committee on Athletic Administration.

She began her time at Loyola in the Fall of 1982 as a first-year student who competed on the field hockey and lacrosse teams for the Greyhounds. She graduated from Loyola in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and quickly transitioned from the role of student to one as a staff member working in the Greyhounds equipment room.

Burns continued her role and was later named Assistant Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator and then her most-recent title of Associate Athletic Director.

Along the way, she has been a constant advocate for Loyola student-athletes, and the university in general, while also championing the values of Jesuit education. Burns also earned her Masters of Education in counseling in 1990 from Loyola.

She has served on numerous committees both internal and external to the university. She was a member of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee from 2008-2011, serving as the committee chair for the final two years of her term.

At Loyola, she has played a major role in all athletics facility construction and renovation over her tenure, most notably as she led the Greyhounds move for soccer and lacrosse to Ridley Athletic Complex, the 6,000-seat stadium that is considered one of the best venues for those sports in the nation.

Burns is married to Judd Burns, and the couple has two grown children, Cassidy and C.J.
