The winningest coach in the history of Loyola University Maryland’s women’s basketball program, Joe Logan enters his 16th season as head coach in 2020-21.

Logan, a 1996 Loyola graduate, has accumulated 184 victories during his tenure while guiding the Greyhounds to three conference championship games. Since joining the Patriot League prior to the 2013-14 season, Loyola players have received 20 postseason conference honors, including three major award winners since 2018.

The Greyhounds have also consistently been among the nation’s best in the classroom under Logan. Loyola was named to the WBCA Division I Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for a fifth-consecutive season in the summer of 2020. The Greyhounds are one of just three schools nationally to rank in the top 15 academically in each of the past five years, reaching as high as No. 5 following the 2017-18 season.

Loyola had two memorable firsts during the 2019-20 season, as senior Stephanie Karcz became the first player to be crowned an NCAA statistical champion while junior Delaney Connolly was the first in program history to earn Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Karcz was also recognized as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-Patriot League and first team All-ECAC after leading the nation in steals per game (5.17). Her 461 career steals are the most in program history and are ranked ninth overall all-time in Division I.

Karcz represented half of Loyola’s two major award winners in 2018, as she earned her first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honor while Isabella Therien was recognized as the Patriot League Rookie of the Year. The Greyhounds won seven Patriot League games, their second-most since joining the League, and beat Bucknell, the 2016-17 Patriot League Champions, 68-65, to snap the Bison's 25-game win streak against Patriot League opponents at Sojka Pavilion.

Logan's 2015-16 squad posted the program's most successful season as a member of the Patriot League. The Greyhounds were picked to finish seventh in the preseason Patriot League coaches’ poll, but Loyola went on to take third place in the conference and earn the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Championships. There, Loyola beat Navy in the quarterfinals -- handing the Midshipmen their first-ever Patriot League quarterfinals loss -- and Bucknell in the semifinals, becoming only the League team during the season to beat the Bison.

At the conclusion of the season, Colleen Marshall became the first player in Patriot League history to earn recognition on the All-Patriot League First Team, the All-Defensive Team and All-Tournament teams.

Logan led the Greyhounds to arguably the most successful year in program history in 2010-11, tying the record for most wins in a single season with 21, and setting the mark for most conference wins in a single season with 15. Loyola finished 21-13 overall and 15-3 in the MAAC to place in the regular season. It was the second season Logan had led the team to at least 13 conference wins.

During the season, the Greyhounds put together a nine-game winning streak, which tied for the longest in program history. With wins over Canisius and Manhattan in the first two rounds of the MAAC tournament, Loyola advanced to the MAAC title game for the seventh time in program history, and ultimately received a berth to the WNIT for the first time ever. The Greyhounds then picked up their first postseason win, knocking off Old Dominion 67-65 on the road in the first round.

Originally hired as the 11th head women’s basketball coach at Loyola on May 12, 2005, Logan guided the program to 38 victories in his first two seasons. The 2005-06 squad finished 20-10 and advanced to the MAAC championship game for the first time in eight years, and Logan was named MAAC Coach of the Year after leading the Greyhounds to a mark of 18-12 (12-6 MAAC) in 2006-07.

Logan became the all-time winningest women's basketball coach in Greyhound history in his seventh season at the helm, winning his 101st game on January 7, 2012 at Siena.

Under Logan, 12 student-athletes have been named to all-conference teams - Lauren Troupe (1st team, 2006), Krystle Harrington (3rd team, 2006), Jill Glessner (1st team, 2007), Vika Sholokhova (3rd team, 2007), Miriam McKenzie (1st team, 2010, 2011 and 2012), Erica DiClemente(2nd team, 2011), Katie Sheahin (2nd team, 2011, 1st team, 2012, 2nd team, 2013), Nai Brown (3rd team, 2014), Colleen Marshall (2nd team, 2015; 1st team, 2016), Jeneh Perry (3rd team, 2016), Bri Betz-White (1st team, 2017) and Stephanie Karcz (1st team, 2018; 3rd team, 2019; 1st team, 2020).

Two players also earned MAAC Sixth Player of the Year honors - Jackie Valderas (2006) and Sholokhova (2007), while 12 players have been named to the conference all-rookie team, including Erica DiClemente (2007), Candice Walker (2008), Katie Sheahin (2010), Kara Marshall (2012), Diana Logan (2013), Tiffany Padgett (2013), Lisa Mirarchi (2014), Bri Betz-White (2015), Stephanie Karcz (2017), Isabella Therien (2018), Taleah Dixon (2019) and Emily McAteer (2020). Sheahin was also a two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year (2011 and 2012).

Prior to his arrival as head coach, Logan was not a stranger to the Loyola women's basketball program. He was an assistant with the Greyhounds from 1997-2001 under head coaches Patty Coyle and Cindy Anderson-Griffin. During that time, Loyola posted a 72-43 record, advancing to the MAAC semifinals three times.

As a Loyola assistant, Logan worked in nearly every area of coaching. He was responsible for recruiting, development of Loyola's forwards, film exchange, scouting, travel, monitoring of academic program, camps and fundraising.

Logan left Loyola in 2001 to be a part of the coaching staff at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. There, he helped the Hawks to an overall record of 72-53. While Logan was at St. Joe's, the Hawks won two Atlantic 10 Eastern Conference titles and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Finals twice.

Logan also has worked with the NBA and WNBA as an advance scout for the New York Liberty in 1999 and an administrative assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers from 1996-97. He began his coaching career at Centenary College in New Jersey. There, he was as an assistant coach for the Cyclones men's basketball team during the 1996-1997 season.

Logan earned his bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in business from Loyola in 1996. As an undergraduate, he worked as a manager for the men's basketball team under the late head coach Skip Prosser and for the women’s team under Coyle. He is married to the former Susan Bryce (Loyola '98), who was a Greyhounds women's basketball player from 1994-1998. The couple have three kids, Maggie, Rose, and Joseph. The family resides in Hampstead, Md.
