Women's Soccer Edges Fairfield, 2-1

FAIRFIELD, CT - Loyola's Katie Elliott scored two goals in the second half to lead the Greyhounds over the Fairfield University women's soccer team, 2-1, Friday evening on Lessing Field.

The Stags started the scoring 16 minutes into the game as junior Meghan King scored on an open net after collecting the rebound off of senior Lindsey Pulito's shot. Loyola's keeper, Kate Gilfillan, initially saved Pulito's shot, which was taken from point-blank range, but was unable to hold on and Fairfield took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Loyola (4-6-1, 2-0-1) scored back-to-back goals within a five minute span in the second half to win the game, 2-1. Elliott beat Stag keeper Katie Ely down low from 25-yards out in the 63rd minute before scoring off the rebound of Carolyn Kennington's shot in the 68th minute.

For the game, the Greyhounds outshot Fairfield, 18-7, forcing Ely to make six saves while Gilfillan made four in her fourth career start.

Loyola will travel to Iona on Sunday, Oct. 12 to complete this weekends MAAC action.
