Women's Lacrosse Tops William & Mary

BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Sydney Greene scored four goals in the second half to lead the No. 5 Loyola College women's lacrosse team to a 12-8 victory over William & Mary Sunday. The Greyhounds improve to 9-1 with the win while the Tribe fall to 4-4.

The Greyhounds got things going with a 3-0 run in the first five minutes of play. Talia Shacklock scored the first goals for Loyola when Rachel Shuck found her from behind the cage 3:06 into the contest. Kate McHarg gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead just 14 seconds later when Shuck found her. Stephanie Walker scored exactly a minute later 4:20 into the game when Sydney Greene found her open directly in front of the cage for the 3-0 lead.

Morgan Watkins got the Tribe on the board for a 3-1 score before Jaclyn Borrone and Jen Schuerholz added unassisted goals for a 5-1 score. Watkins tallied William & Mary's second goal as well 11:19 into the first half. Lauren Work set the score at 5-3 with her goal from Emily Vitrano at 14:16. Schuerholz scored her second goal for a 6-3 before Work tallied the final score of the half for the 6-4 at halftime.

Greene went to work to get Loyola to break away in the second half. She scored at 33:45 before Watkins and Work pulled the Tribe within one for a 7-6 score. Greene answered back with her second goal at 43:27. William & Mary's Morgan Lang again brought the Tribe within one with her unassisted goal at 44:23 but Greene scored back to back goals to pull the Greyhounds away 10-7. Borrone and Schuerholz scored the final Loyola goals while Colleen Dalon added the Tribe's final for the 12-8 final score.

Greene finished with four goals and an assist while Schuerholz added three. Watkins finished with three goals and an assist for the Tribe while Work had three goals as well.

Loyola starting keeper Kim Lawton made five stops in the first half while Cindy Nicolaus made eight saves in the second.

The Greyhounds will stay on the road, visiting George Mason on Wednesday, March 31st.
