Women's Basketball Rolls Past Rider, 62-49

Lawrenceville, N.J. - The Greyhounds put together a solid all-around effort defeating Rider 62-49 at Alumni Gym Thursday night. Loyola shot 48% from the field, 70% from the free-throw line, held a 45-31 advantage on the boards and tallied 15 assists, nine blocks and seven steals. The `Hounds improve to 10-16 overall and 9-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while the Broncs fall to 8-18 overall and 6-11 in the conference.

After exchanging baskets to start the contest, Loyola 6-0 run to take an 8-2 lead. Leanne Moore ended the drought for Rider with a basket at 15:34. The teams went up and down the court four times before Katie Scherle added to the Greyhound lead at 13:16 for a 10-4 score. Chris Catalantto hit a three 12:52 for a 10-7 Loyola mark before scored 12 straight unanswered points for a 22-7 score with 7:32 left to play in the first half. Lauren Troupe scored the last six points of that streak for the `Hounds. The lowest Rider would bring the Loyola lead was 26-13 with 3:56 on the clock. Loyola closed the half with yet another run, 8-1 for a 33-14 halftime mark. Katie Scherle tallied eight points in the first half.

After Brittany Dunn increased the lead to 35-14 with two free throw shots, Rider began chipping away at Loyola's lead with an 18-8 over nearly six minutes of play for a 42-32 score at 13:54. The Greyhounds played solid defense over the next several minutes to build the lead back up to 52-32 at 11:24. Jill Glessner sparked the run with four points with back-to-back steals to go coast to coast for a lay-up. Loyola held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest for the 62-49 final.

The Greyhounds played a solid all-around game, led by Jackie Valderas and Glessner's 14 points each. Valderas scored 12 of her points in the second half and also recorded four blocks. The duo also led on the boards with nine and eight respectively. Scherle was next in the scoring column with nine while Ebony Toliver, Krystle Harrington and Lauren Troupe scored six points each. Harrington added seven boards and eight assists.

Loyola was one short of tying a game record on 10 blocks. The `Hounds out-rebounded the Broncs 45-31 and shot 48% from the field, including 63.6% in the first half.

Catalantto led Rider with 13 points while Jen Towers added 10 off the bench.

The Greyhounds will wrap-up the regular season at Fairfield on Saturday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m.
