Women's Lacrosse Hosts UMBC in Season Opener

Baltimore, Md. - Tuesday is the season opener in women's lacrosse action for both the Greyhou nds and Retrievers. The two teams have met in seven other season openers including the first game in Loyola women's lacrosse history in 1973.

Loyola holds a 19-3-1 advantage in the series with UMBC that began with Loyola's first ever contest in 1973. The Greyhounds have won the last 17 straight contests between the two teams.

The Retrievers return their leading scorer from the 2004 season with Kelly Fiorani who scored 34 goals and added 31 assists. They also return KateWorthington, Kelly Fahey and Lauren Hess who were third, fourth and fifth in scoring last season.

Loyola was led in 2004 by sophomore Sydney Greene with 43 goals and 13 assists. Just behind her was senior Rachel Shuck with 17 goals and 34 assists. Talia Shacklock was third in scoring with 35goals and two assists while classmate Stephanie Walker follows in fourth with 29 goals and five assists.
