Women's Basketball Falls Short of Marist, 65-56

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Loyola College women's basketball team could not snap Marist win streak as it fell to the Red Foxes, 65-56, Saturday night at the McCann Center. Marist extended its win streak to 11 while improve to 11-4 on the season and undefeated at 6-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Greyhounds fall to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Loyola jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with baskets from Lauren Troupe, Brittany Dunn and Jill Glessner. A three by Marist's Alisa Kresge cut the margin to 6-5 and a basket by Fifi Camara gave the Red Foxes the 7-6 advantage after two and a half minutes of play. Vanessa Ruffin returned the lead to Loyola, 8-7 at 16:22 before free-throws by Camara gave Marist the advantage for the remainder of the half. The Red Foxes got their largest lead late in the half with 17 first half points from Camara for a 36-27 halftime score.

Loyola cut Marist's lead to eight twice early in the second half after a three by Troupe for the 38-30 score and later after a three by Jackie Valderas for the 45-37 margin with 12:54 left to play. But after Valderas' three, Marist went on an eight point run while holding the `Hounds without a basket for four minutes of play to extend its lead to 53-37 with nearly nine minutes left.

A lay-up by Krystle Harrington at 8:43 ended the Greyhounds drought before Kresge hit her third and final three pointer to give the Red Foxes a 56-39 advantage.

Marist got their largest lead, 60-42 with 6:34 to play but Loyola outscored the Red Foxes 14-5 in the final six minutes of play for the 65-56 final. The run was sparked by a three by Ebony Toliver. The Greyhound defense held Marist without a field-goal in the final 4:32 of play.

Troupe led the Greyhounds with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Harrington added 10 points while Dunn chipped in nine.

Camara led the game with 23 points. Meg Dahlman was second with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kresge scored nine points, all on three point baskets.

Marist hit 7-of-15 from three-point range for a 46.7% effort while the Greyhounds hit 3-of-5 long range baskets for a 60% effort.

Loyola remains on the road for the final leg of its four game road swing at Rider on Thursday, Jan. 19.
