Greyhounds Swept In MAAC Opener

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams dropped their MAAC openers to Niagara on Sunday in Baltimore, Md. Playing indoors, the women fell 4-2 while the men dropped a 6-1 decision to the Purple Eagles.

On the women's side, Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore proved to be a potent 1-2 combination, winning their No. 1 doubles match, 8-6, over Julianne Prokopich and Vanja Lakic. Niagara would capture the doubles point, however, winning 8-6 and 8-2 in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles competition.

Nitch and Liberatore weren't finished and picked up a pair of wins in singles competition as well. Nitch took the No. 1 singles set, 7-5, 6-3 over Lakic while Liberatore won at No. 2, rallying to win 1-6, 7-5, (5).

On the men's side, freshman Sean Wall earned a win in No. 3 singles, defeating Mark Dickinson 8-5. Niagara swept the doubles point and won their singles' matches in straight sets. Ben Epstein fell to Walter Garcia at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2 and Scott Gannon dropped his No. 2 singles match, 6-2. 6-4.

Loyola's women's tennis team heads to Morgan State this Tuesday while the men's tennis team is back in action against Morgan State on Wednesday - both matches are at 3 p.m.
