FAIRFAX, Va. – The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams closed their 2025-26 regular-seasons on Tuedsay afternoon at George Mason University.
On the men's side, Loyola fell 4-0 to the Patriots in a match shortened by unfinished contests. George Mason secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. At the top spot, Niza Simunyola and Edgar Vilain defeated
Nick Lawliss and
Ryan Gill, 6-3, while Zavan Fahim and Nicholas Novitski earned a 6-4 win over
Dylan Koziol and
Blake Edwards at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match between
Louis Moldenhauer and
Petter Hagen and Shari Saeed and Deniz Okyay was left unfinished, tied at 5-5.
Singles play saw George Mason clinch the match with wins in three completed positions. Simunyola defeated Moldenhauer, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2, followed by a 7-5, 6-2 victory from Vilain over Gill at No. 3. Fahim closed scoring with a 6-3, 6-4 win against
Dylan Coonerty at No. 5. Three singles matches were left unfinished, with Okyay leading Hagen, 7-5, 5-4, at No. 1, Lawliss holding a 3-2 advantage over Adria Franco at No. 4, and the No. 6 match between Saeed and
Trevor Girandola not started.
The Loyola women dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision against George Mason after splitting doubles and singles play. Loyola claimed the doubles point with wins at two positions, as
Christine Richiez and
Emma Roeck picked up a 7-5 victory over Cenan Liu and Mary Young at No. 1, while
Liza Tankimovich and
Mia Matriccino defeated Noelle Talarek and Ravaka Noemie Ramanantoanina, 6-1, at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match between
Emi Shivkumar and
Elena Hartley and Brooklyn Siegel and Maya Bayat was left unfinished.
In singles action, George Mason earned four victories to secure the team win. Liu defeated Richiez, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1, while Talarek edged Tankimovich, 1-6, 6-5, (10-5), at No. 4. Siegel added a 6-2, 6-1 win over
Lily Langhus at No. 5, and Ramanantoanina capped the scoring with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against
Katie Moorhead at No. 6. Loyola earned singles wins at No. 2, where Hartley rallied past Bayat, 4-6, 6-1, (10-4), and at No. 3, as Matriccino defeated Young, 6-2, 6-0.
