ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Navy on Wednesday afternoon at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium.
The Greyhounds earned two singles victories, but the Midshipmen secured the team win with four singles points and two doubles victories.
In singles action, Emma Gu opened play with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Christine Richiez at No. 1. Loyola answered at the second position as Elena Hartley rallied past Nicole Fu, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Navy regained momentum at No. 3 behind a 6-3, 6-4 victory from Grace Li over Mia Matriccino.
Loyola picked up its second singles point at No. 4, where Victoria Epps defeated Olivia Fermo, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Navy closed out singles play with wins at the final two spots, as Molly Bellia edged Emma Roeck, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 5, and Peyton Philemon topped Emi Shivkumar, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.
In doubles competition, Navy claimed victories at the top two positions to secure the doubles point. At No. 1, Olivia Fermo and Nicole Fu defeated Christine Richiez and Emma Roeck, 6-2, followed by a 6-3 win from Julia Lee and Grace Li over Emi Shivkumar and Elena Hartley at No. 2. Loyola earned its doubles win at No. 3 as Mia Matriccino and Victoria Epps topped Peyton Philemon and Anna Jordaan, 6-2.
