Sept. 15, 2006

Box Score

Norfolk, Va. - The Loyola men's soccer team fell to host Old Dominion at the ODU Soccer Classic in Norfolk, Va. on Friday night. The Greyhounds, who registered three official shots, where unable to get on the scoreboard for the first time this season, falling 3-0 in front of 1,213 fans at ODU Soccer Stadium.

Playing the 13th-ranked team in the nation, Loyola's offense was aggressive early. Senior Rade Kokovic took the game's first shot - a wide strike in the fourth minute - as the Greyhounds controlled possession. Old Dominion, however, quickly countered and grabbed momentum with Trevor Bank's goal at the nine-minute mark.

The Monarchs extended their one-goal lead to three with a pair of tallies in a 45-second span. Both goals were initially saved by freshman keeper Milos Kocic, but second efforts proved fruitful for ODU, and at the half, the Greyhounds trailed by three.

The Loyola defense held firm in the second half as Kocic, who played his first college game in goal, finished with four saves. Kokovic had two shots while Omar Alfonso finished with one for the `Hounds.

With the win, the Monarchs improve to 4-1-0 while Loyola falls to 0-5-1 this season. The Greyhounds continue play at the ODU Soccer Classic when they take on William & Mary on Sunday at noon. William & Mary defeated No. 29 UNC Greensboro, 5-1, in the first game of this weekend's tournament.
