Box Score

Baltimore, Md. - Junior Theresa Ferraina scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute as Loyola handed Rider a 1-nil defeat at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Saturday afternoon. For Ferraina, it was her team-leading sixth goal of the year, while for Loyola, the Greyhounds improve to 2-0-1 in the MAAC.

After a scoreless first half of play in which Loyola outshot Rider 5-0, the Greyhounds were able to gain the advantage on a series that began with Ferraina taking a corner from the near side. Her service landed in the box and bounced around before she settled about 20-yards out. Ferraina then sent a beautiful left-footed draw into the upper left corner of the cage to score her first game-winner of the season.

The Greyhounds continued their aggressive play around the goal with near misses from Lea Day, Kelly Thomas and Kristina Balfoort. In all, Loyola registered 13 shots compared to two for the Broncs.

Goalkeeper Brittany Henderson picked up the shutout and the win with one save, giving her two shutouts for the season. The Greyhounds, who are now 5-5-2 overall, travel to Buffalo next weekend to take on Canisius and Niagara.
