Tennis Swept In MAAC Opener

Niagara Falls, N.Y. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams fell to Niagara in their MAAC openers this spring, falling 7-0 and 5-2 respectively in Niagara Falls, N.Y. Both teams are now 2-2 overall and return to non-conference play with George Mason this week.

The men were swept on both the doubles and singles sides, while the women played a very close match with the Purple Eagles, dropping a pair of hard-fought three-set matches that determined the final outcome.

The Greyhounds got off to a good start with a win No. 3 doubles as junior co-captains Meaghan McKenna and Mallory Tarca claimed a 9-8 victory. Niagara, however, won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2.

In singles action, freshman Caitlyn Day earned a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 1, and freshman Kerri Swan took the No. 2 singles match by the same score to put the `Hound up 2-1. Freshman Stephanie Dunn was edged out in three sets at No. 3 and Tarca dropped a three-set match at No. 5 as Niagara escaped with the win.

The Loyola men host George Mason on Thursday and the women host George Mason on Friday in a pair of non-conference matches at the Butler Courts.
