Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep of George Mason at the Butler Courts on Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds, who improve to 3-2 on the season, won all six singles' matches en route to a convincing win over the Patriots.

The `Hounds won the doubles point with 8-3 wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to get out to a one-point lead. The freshmen tandem of Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn captured the No. 1 doubles match, while junior co-captains Meaghan McKenna and Mallory Tarca posted the win at No. 3.

Day proceeded to win her No. 1 singles match in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-0. Freshman Kerri Swan also won her singles match in straight sets, taking the No. 2 match with scores of 6-2, 6-0.

A three-set win for Dunn at No. 3 clinched the point for Loyola, while hard-fought wins at Nos. 4 and 5 preserved the shutout. Freshman Lauren Cassle rallied from a 5-7 defeat in her first set at No. 3 to win 7-5 in the second set. The third set was decided by a super tie-breaker, in which Cassle won 10-8.

Likewise, McKenna played a three-set match that resulted in a super tie-breaker at No. 5. McKenna won the match, 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Tarca finished the day with a straight set win at No. 6, posting scores of 6-2, 6-2 for the Greyhounds.

Loyola will be idle for spring break, but returns to action at the Butler Courts on Wednesday, March 14 when it hosts Morgan State.
