Women's Tennis Posts 5-2 Win Over La Salle

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Loyola women's tennis team captured a 5-2 win at La Salle on Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds, who have now won five straight and seven of their last eight, improve their overall record to 7-3 this season.

Loyola won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. After a competitive 8-6 loss at No. 1 doubles, junior co-captains Meaghan McKenna and Mallory Tarca earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 to put the pressure on Loyola's No. 2 pair - freshmen Kerri Swan and Lauren Cassle. The freshman tandem won the point with an exhausting 9-7 win.

The Greyhounds took their one-point advantage into singles play and quickly scored points with straight-set victories at Nos. 2, 5 and 6. Swan won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, McKenna won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Tarca rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

La Salle's Joann Lee stopped Loyola's No. 1 singles player Caitlyn Day with 7-5, 7-5 sets at No. 1 while Stephanie Dunn fell at No. 3. The Greyhounds closed out their scoring with a three-set victory at No. 4. Cassle won 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 to give Loyola its final 5-2 margin.

The `Hounds continue their weekend road trip at MAAC foe Siena tomorrow morning before concluding the trip at Marist on Sunday.
