Men's Golf Takes Early Lead At Fort Lauderdale

March 8, 2007

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Chris Derby led four Loyola scorers with par or better as the Greyhounds raced out to an early lead at the Fort Lauderdale Spring Classic. Derby, who shot a two-under round of 70, helped the `Hounds score a 285 in Thursday's opening round.

Sophomore Blake Furgerson matched Derby with a sub-par effort, shooting a 71 in his first round of play. The Greyhounds also received even-par scores from senior captain Will Shriver and junior Matt Bassler for their lowest round this spring.

Even more impressive was that Thursday's drop score came from sophomore Michael Mulieri, who posted a 73.

The Greyhounds, who finished second in their last outing (Pala Mesa Invitational), will be looking for their second team championship this spring and third team title of the season when they play the final 18 holes of the Fort Lauderdale Spring Classic on Friday.
