Men's Soccer Falls At Oregon State, 1-0

Sept. 23, 2007

Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State's Justin Woodward scored off a header in the 37th minute of play to give the Beavers all the offense they would need in Saturday night's 1-0 win over Loyola. The Greyhounds, who had their opportunities, could not bring the game even down the stretch and fall to 6-2 on the season.

Loyola posted five shots on goal to equal the offensive effort of OSU. Senior Julian Cantillo, who scored in Friday night's game versus No. 25 Gonzaga, had two of those shots on goal, and nearly scored in the 40th minute when a team save secured a 1-nil halftime lead for the Beavers.

The Greyhounds were the aggressors in the second half, out-shooting Oregon State 5-3 while taking seven corners to OSU's one. Three of those corners came in the 78th minute when the Greyhounds controlled possession. Shots from freshman Eddie Dines and sophomore Jamie Darvill were saved, however, were saved by Beaver keeper Packy Deenihan.

Sophomore Milos Kocic made four saves for Loyola, bringing his season total to 23. The Greyhounds, who leave Oregon State with a pair of hard-fought 1-goal defeats, are still allowing less than one goal per game this season (0.88).

The `Hounds return to the East Coast where they will host UMBC at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Saturday afternoon. Loyola is 3-0 at home this season.
