Tennis Earns Non-Conference Sweep

March 18, 2008

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams earned 7-0 victories over the District of Columbia at the Butler Courts on Tuesday afternoon. The men improved to 7-1 this season, while the women move their season record to 5-2 in convincing fashion.

The women opened with a solid performance in doubles play, where freshmen Joy Johnson and Andie Keyser- Baker teamed up to win 8-2 at No. 1. Another freshman duo, Lane Maloney and Melanie Ocampos-Barry clinched the point with an 8-0 win at No. 2.

Johnson, Maloney and Ocampos-Barry each won singles matches in straight sets, while Meaghan McKenna claimed a 5-7, 6-1 (10-5) victory at No. 2. Sophomore Stephanie Dunn, who was named the MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week earlier in the day, completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

On the men's side, sophomore Matt McDaniel and Tim Koch won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, while senior Doug Alban and freshman Dan D'Agostino continued to roll, winning 8-4 to remain undefeated as a tandem.

Senior Scott Gannon, who is also undefeated in singles play this spring, won 6-2, 7-6, 7-2 at No. 1 singles as Koch, D'Agostino, freshman Jamie Russo and freshman Patrick Glaessner each won in straight sets.

Both the men and women return to action next Monday when they head to Philadelphia for a match with LaSalle.
