Women's Tennis Closes Season With Semifinal Loss To Marist

Flushing, N.Y. - The Loyola women's tennis team closed the books on its 2007-08 season with a 6-1 loss to top-ranked Marist in the MAAC Championship Semifinals on Saturday morning. The Greyhounds finish the year 11-8 overall with their 18th consecutive top four finish in the league.

Loyola's point came in No. 6 singles, where sophomore Lauren Cassle completed a perfect season against MAAC foes. Cassle won 7-6(7-3), 6-1 to get Loyola on the board against the Stags.

In other singles competition, sophomores Caitlyn Day and Kerri Swan fell in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2, while freshman Joy Johnson dropped a two-set match at No. 3.

Sophomore Stephanie Dunn fell at No. 4 singles and senior Meaghan McKenna closed her college career with a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 5.

In doubles play, Swan and Johnson dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 1, Day and Dunn fell 8-2 at No. 2, and Cassle teamed up with Andie Keyser- Baker at No. 3 doubles.

Loyola's 11 wins give Head Coach Rick McClure 295 career wins with the women's tennis program. Overall, Coach McClure has 557 wins between Loyola's men's and women's tennis teams.
