Greyhounds Golfers Tied For 14th At Ron Moore

Denver, Colo. - Freshman Jay Mulieri was the low Loyola golfer in each of the two rounds played Monday to rank tied for 28th overall and the Greyhounds are tied for 14th as a team after first-day play at the Ron Moore Invitational in Denver, Colo.

Playing his first collegiate match, Jay Mulieri recorded a two-over par 74 over his first round and then played his second 18 to an even par 72 for a 146 score (+2) to match a group of golfers who are tied for 28th. He is four shots better than his older brother, Michael, a Loyola senior, who tallied 75 in each of his rounds for 150 (+6) and a tie for 47th.

Rounding out the Loyola scores are senior Mike O'Keefe, who matched Michael Mulieri's first-round 75 and added an 81 for his second round for a 156 (+12), and junior Keith Hall, who totalled a 36-hole score of 160 (+16) after rounds of 78 and 82. Sophomore Alex Redfearn was ill and unable to play his first round, but rebounded in the afternoon to shoot a 74 to add into Loyola's team total.

The Greyhounds' 14th-place standing is equal to that of UC Riverside at +28 (604). Colorado is pacing the field with a 550 team total, 26 under par on the Par 72, 7,239-yard Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. Air Force (-10) and New Mexico State (-1) are the only other teams below par. Buffaloes Pat Grady and Kevin Kring are tied for individual honors at 8 under par (136).

Play concludes Tuesday at the two-day event with a single round.
