Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving teams split their Saturday afternoon contest with Towson with the men earning a 201-114 victory and the women falling by a 244-65 score. The women also fell to James Madison, 218-91.
The men earned a number of first-place finishes to help them take the victory and started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of sophomores Sam McQuaid, Matthew Fralinger, Ozzy Torres and senior E.J. Verrico clocked in a 1:33.65 time.
The relay team also had a few individual victories, starting with McQuaid's in the 100 back (52.40), Fralinger in the 100 breast (58.93) and Torres in the 200 fly (1:53.24).
Junior Brad Reeser won his two events on Saturday. He swam a 21.69 in the 50 freestyle and then came back to win the 100 free with a 47.45 time.
Sophomore Jacob Drannan took an individual victory in the 200 back, and also finished first in the 400 individual medley at 4:12.18.
Freshman Patrick Mukri also had a solid day in his events. He started the meet with a win in the 1,000 free with a 9:55.69 time. He then came back to take first in the 500 free and swam a 4:50.87.
In women's competition, freshman Courtney Trivino finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a 59.85 time and then took fourth in the 200 back at 2:10.61.
The Greyhounds face Fairfield and Iona next Saturday for the final regular season meet before returning to host the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships from February 12-14.
