Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. - Freshman Ryan McCarthy led the way for Loyola with a team-best 76 in Tuesday's final round at TPC Sawgrass Valley, and the Greyhounds wrapped up their spring opener with a ninth-place showing at the Jacksonville University Invitational.

The Greyhounds showed consistent improvement across the board on Tuesday at the 6,838-yard, par-72 course, with four of the team's five players bettering their scores than from a day before. The team finished 99-over par for the 54-hole event.

After shooting 77-85 on Monday, McCarthy responded with a 76, which led the 'Hounds and placed him in a tie for 32nd place with a three-round aggregate 238 (22 over par), best on the team.

Not far behind him was sophomore Alex Redfearn, who shot a 78 Tuesday after consecutive rounds of 81 a day before. He finished in a tie for 35th place (240).

Just a stroke behind him was freshman Jay Mulieri, who carded an 80 and finished with a three-round 241 (82-79-80).

Current MAAC Player of the Year Michael Mulieri shot an 85 in the final round and finished tied for 44th place (244: 81-78-85).

Finishing out the rotation was freshman Patrick McCormick, who shot an 85.

LaMar University took home team honors at the event with a 25-over par score, while the University of Kentucky took second-place earnings at a stroke behind.

Tommy Parker of Lamar fired a final-round 67 and earned top individual honors at 4-under for the tournament.

The Greyhounds will take nearly a month off before returning to action on March 16 at the Bayonet Invitational in Seaside, Calif.
