Out West, Golfers Stand Seventh At CSUMB Otter Invitational

March 16, 2009

Seaside, Calif. - After playing two rounds on Monday at the CSUMB Otter Invitational, the Loyola College golf team finds itself in seventh place among the 13-team field at the Bayonet Golf Club. The Greyhounds fired a cumulative 624 (314, 310) today, with senior captain Mike Mulieri carding a team-best 151 (75-76), good for tenth in individual play.

Two more rounds on Tuesday will conclude the tournament for the Hounds, who are resuming spring action for the first time in a month.

Mulieri did most of his damage on the par-5's, playing the holes at a tournament-best 3-under par. Sophomore Alex Redfearn shot rounds of 80-77 (13-over) to find himself in a six-way tie for 25th place.

Freshmen Jay Mulieri (81-77) and Patrick McCormick (78-80) are just a stroke back and tied for 31st at 14-over. Freshman Ryan McCarthy (84-85) rounds out the scoring for the Hounds in 65th.

Loyola trails first-place CSU-San Bernardino by 26 strokes going into tomorrow's final rounds. The Coyotes' Gene Webster and Sonoma State's Patrick Bauer are tied for top individual honors at even-par.
