Greyhounds Handle Rider In Conference Action Wednesday

Baltimore, Md. - The Greyhound tennis teams defeated conference opponent Rider University on Wednesday afternoon at Loyola's courts. The women's team finished with a sweep of all matches for a 7-0 score, while the men beat Rider, 6-2.

The Loyola ladies opened the match with a quick sweep of the doubles point. Freshman Rachel Janasek and junior Kerri Swan won 8-0 at the number one spot, sophomores Andie Keyser-Baker and Joy Johnson followed with an 8-1 victory at No.2 and juniors Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn beat their opponents 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Loyola women won all matches in straight sets, starting with Janasek at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1). Day played at the number two spot and won 6-1, 6-3 and Keyser-Baker defeated her No. 3 singles opponent 6-1, 6-2. Swan followed at the No. 4 position (6-1, 6-1), as did Johnson at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) and freshman Judy Lite entered at the No. 6 spot for a 6-1, 6-3 match victory.

The men's team also swept the doubles point and freshman Keyan Sanai and J. Pierce Norton started things with an 8-2 victory at No. 1. Freshman Kevin Zingler and junior Matt McDaniel won 8-1 at the number two position, while sophomores Dan D'Agostino and Jamie Russo defeated the No. 3 Rider doubles team 8-2.

Switching over to singles play, the Greyhound men won all but one match. Norton defeated his opponent at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Zingler won at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4) and McDaniel topped the Rider opponent at the No.4 spot. D'Agostino finished with a 6-2. 6-1 victory at the five position and Russo finished things off with his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Sanai played a tough match at No. 1, but fell to Rider's Casey JedLinski 6-2, 6-2.

The Greyhounds will host a doubleheader on Saturday, playing Fairfield at 10:00 a.m. and then Maryland Eastern Shore at 3:00 p.m. Thursday's Manhattan match for the women's team was postponed.
