Filippelli Earns Third BIG EAST Player Of Week Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Loyola sophomore midfielder Cara Filippelli was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Filippelli helped the Greyhounds (9-4 overall, 2-3 BIG EAST) beat Cincinnati, 17-4, in conference action on Saturday. She scored twice on free-position shots and had four caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Filippelli leads the team with 35 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers, and she has scored 10 goals, this year. She was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on March 16 and 23, and she also was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on April 6.

Her classmate, Abby Rehfuss, earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mention today, as well. Rehfuss led all players with four goals and six points on Saturday. Her goal, points and assists (2) total against Cincinnati were all season-highs.

The Greyhounds are back in action when they host Georgetown at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15.
